Anyone who knows me, knows I love birds. I have always been very sentimental about birds. Red birds will forever remind me of my Pap-Paw, and baby birds remind me of my own babies (no matter how much they grow) I am so excited to add another "baby bird" into our family later this year, and I have been looking all over blog land for some creative ideas involving birds. Yesterday, I came across Under the Sycamore, Ashley shares so many ideas for beautiful DIY projects. I spent over an hour on her site and loved every minute of it! I found the perfect "bird" project there and got started on it right away! You can find her tutorial and finished product here , you will want to see this, it is beautiful!!
This is my finished product
follow along to see how I got here.....
It starts with a canvas, I used a 10x10
I sketched where my branches would be in pencil
I used fabric scraps to cut leaves and my little bird from and layed them out
Did you notice the bird's beak? It's made from a small piece of copper wire that I attached to the under side of the bird with a little tape
Then, I was ready to paint my branches. I used "Mississippi Mud", Americana acrylic paint
After the paint was completely dried, let the Mod Podge fun begin!!! I brushed on a layer of Mod Podge onto the canvas and put my fabric leaves on top. I then smoothed them down and gave them a layer of Mod Podge. Continue until all your leaves and bird are on the canvas. I let the whole piece dry over night and added other painted details, like the little bird's eye and some definition to his wing.

I'm not sure yet where this bird's home will be...maybe in our new "baby bird's" room...we will just have to wait and see.....
