I had such a good time trying out this new skill for round one of the One Craft Contest over at One Artsy Mama !
I was inspired by this necklace in a Ralph Lauren add that I saw in People Magazine {style edition}
My oh so patient Mother in law taught me how to do a basic crochet chain stitch without a hook and I was off from there!
If you are a beginner like me, you may want to watch this little video to get you started.
I tried taking pictures of the process but I confused myself so I know they wouldn't help you at all....
the other option is asking my Mother in law if she could come to your house and teach you ;)
This is what you will need:
I start by taping off the end of the thread, twist the tape to make it easy to add your beads
After you have added about 40 beads { I am showing a bracelet here...add more beads for a necklace }
Chain stitch about 5 stitches and then it's time to add a bead....
pull op a bead that you have loaded on the the thread and tightly stitch it into place
make 3 to 4 stitches between each bead, continue until you have added all the beads
After you have added all the beads, cut about 4 inches from the last stitch and tie it off in a tight knot with the beginning loop...
Wrap and wear!

Beautiful - perfect for summer.
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, got to try some of these!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Do you think it would still work if you did the crocheting with a hook?
ReplyDeleteThis is great - it kind of reminds me of hemp necklaces from years ago... I'd love for you to link up to my new link Party:
